The house consist of three 40ft and one 20ft container. The design creates 10x7m of open living space between the containers. The whole structure will be covered by single-pitch roof.

40ft Shipping Container School, - LaunchPads, Infinite Family, - Johannesburg, South Africa,


Perkins+Will, in collaboration with Atelier Ten, volunteered their time to design the first environmentally sustainable mentoring module. Called LaunchPad, it uses a repurposed shipping container for the Infinite Family initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa where millions of children grow up without the influence of adults. Amy Stokes, the program’s founder, wants to change this.
Infinite Family’s first LaunchPad mentoring lab opened in August 2012, in Alexandra township, north of Johannesburg. Their plan is to open one hundred LaunchPads over the next five years, serving more than 11,000 children. Rendering courtesy Perkins+Will.
The first LaunchPad in Alexandra is made out of a 40 ft shipping container and was designed to be safe, secure, energy-efficient, self-sustaining, and as environmentally sensitive as possible. A wall of recycled water bottles serves as thermal mass to provide cooling inside. A solar canopy on top provides shade in order to reduce heat gain and windows are strategically placed in locations that respond to site conditions for optimum orientation to the sun and prevailing breezes, which provide natural daylight and ventilation. Inside, the space is divided into open areas and cellular spaces for different activities. The container is also equipped with a photovoltaic system and battery backup to make sure the laboratory can operate on its own if the grid goes down

2x 40ft Shipping Container Home, - Sarah House Project, - Glendale, Salt Lake City, Utah

The Sarah House Project is a mostly one-man effort to build a small home out of two 8 by 40-foot shipping containers.
Jeffrey White is adding something new to the mix. Something unexpectedly stylish. Shipping containers.
White's house is 672 square feet.
White estimates the cost of the project, including the land, at $108,000 - $115,000. This, he says, is close to the cost of a conventional home and is higher than he expected, but White hopes he'll be able to bring those numbers down in future.
"I would love this house to come somewhere in the $60,000 - $75,000 range," White said.
The Crossroads Urban Center will eventually sell the home to a low-income single or couple

A Unique container home the SCH Series
Flagship product is the SCH-1, a 40ft converted shipping container. The SCH-1 will hopefully be the first in a large range of container homes and accessories which will one day expand to incorporate studio homes through to 2 or 3 bedroom homes.

They cut two 40 foot shipping containers in half and stacked them in a square. The project was completed in 34 days after breaking ground at a construction cost of under $100 per square foot. The two-story structure was their learning project so they kept it small.
The house has one bedroom and one bath upstairs with 320 square feet of heated living area. Downstairs is another 320 square feet that is unheated for storage and a garage. Shipping containers come in 20 foot lengths but are only eight feet tall. The group used 40 foot ISBU's for their nine and one half foot ceilings for more headroom. Corner castings secure the containers to three foot deep concrete piers instead of a foundation.

Built by Artist Wendy as a family home on a nice piece of land with a lake.
The use of this 40ft Shipping Container is very inspirational, Lots of light from the sliding doors
and large windows with a beautiful wood floor creating a 320 sqft space, They have added a large deck
area with canopy to enhance the outdoor space.

They are adding an additional 40ft container to use as a main bedroom and guestroom.
